Don Hardison, President & Chief Executive Officer
Don Hardison is the CEO, and a member of the board of Good Start Genetics. Don is an executive with broad private and public company backgrounds in both emerging and Fortune 500 companies. Prior to joining Good Start Genetics, he was at Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (NYSE: LH) in Burlington, North Carolina, where he served as an Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer. Don has served as President, CEO and Director of EXACT Sciences Corporation (NASDAQ: EXAS), an applied genomics/biotechnology company focused on the early detection of cancer. Over the past 30 years, he also has worked as a Managing Partner of OnTarget, a sales and marketing consulting firm, and has held numerous leadership roles at Quest Diagnostics and SmithKline Beecham Corporation. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Jean Franchi, Chief Financial Officer
Jean brings to the company 20 years of experience in specialty pharmaceutical, biotech, and diagnostics industries. Prior to joining Good Start Genetics, she held a variety of senior business positions at Genzyme Corporation, which is now owned by Sanofi, S.A. (EURONEXT: SAN and NYSE: SNY), including Senior Vice President of Corporate Finance. Before leading Corporate Finance at Genzyme, she managed a team of finance professionals serving Genzyme’s diverse business units as financial partners to senior management with a focus on both strategic and commercial operations. Earlier in her career, Jean worked in accounting, finance, and sales operations for diagnostic companies bioMérieux, Inc. and API, a former division of American Home Products. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Hofstra University and has successfully completed the Uniform CPA Examination.
Mark Adams, Chief Information Officer
Mark has worked in the field of bioinformatics and data analytics for more than 15 years and brings extensive experience in the strategy, design, and implementation of large-scale informatics organizations and systems in support of key strategic initiatives. He joins Good Start Genetics from Bridgewater Associates, Ltd., where he developed unique data warehousing and machine learning approaches to support the world’s largest hedge fund. Previously, Mark was a principal with Booz Allen Hamilton, where he developed a leading biomedical informatics consulting practice with a primary focus on informatics strategy for clients in the commercial, government, and non-profit markets. A pioneer in the use, development and deployment of large-scale, open-source software in the national and international bioinformatics community, Mark is also an expert on building communities comprised of academic, industry, and government partners to fund and address health care issues. Mark led some of the earliest commercial bioinformatics efforts to explore and use genomic and genetic variation data at Variagenics (Cambridge, MA,) where he was vice president of bioinformatics, and Incyte (Palo Alto, CA) where he worked with Temple Smith, Ph.D., to build the company’s first informatics pipeline, supporting high-throughout SNP genomics. Mark holds a B.A. from Oberlin College and a Ph.D. from Baylor College of Medicine.
Lori Batta, Vice President of Sales
Lori brings to the company more than 25 years of commercialization experience in the healthcare industry. Prior to joining Good Start Genetics, Lori served as the Vice President of Sales for EMD Serono Reproductive Health where she led the division to market leadership of their flagship fertility product. Lori also served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for MDR Pharmaceuticals, a national pharmacy specializing in the distribution of fertility medications for reproductive health, and Senior Director of Global Commercial Development for Javelin Pharmaceuticals until its acquisition by Hospira, Inc., where she prepared the company and the market for the launch of three brands. Lori spent nine years at Novartis holding various positions in sales, sales leadership, managed care, operations and management development. She started her career in research in the human genetics lab at UMDNJ. She holds a bachelors degree in Biology from the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station NJ.
Paul Ethridge, Vice President of Human Resources & Administration
Paul is an accomplished business leader with broad strategic and operational HR experience including domestic and international operations at the local, regional, and global level. He brings 20-plus years of executive HR leadership experience with GlaxoSmithKline, most recently as Global Vice President of Human Resources for its Consumer Healthcare Supply division with responsibilities covering more than 31 sites in 19 countries. Paul also led the HR function for Diversified Pharmaceutical Services, a national pharmacy benefit management company, and held HR leadership positions with SmithKline Beecham Clinical Laboratories. He has had particular success in developing and implementing strategies to drive changes in organizational culture. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of the Practice of Engineering Management at the School of Engineering at Vanderbilt University. Paul holds a bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University and an M.B.A. from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University.
Stephanie Hallam, Ph.D., Vice President of Laboratory Operations & Medical Director
Stephanie brings to the company more than twenty years of experience working, managing and directing a broad range of molecular and clinical molecular diagnostics. Before joining Good Start Genetics, she served as Vice President of Operations and Quality Systems at Allegro Diagnostics, Inc., Director of Clinical Operations at Genzyme Corporation, which is now owned by Sanofi, S.A. (EURONEXT: SAN and NYSE: SNY), and Laboratory Director at Athena Diagnostics, Kimball Genetics, and the University of Utah. Stephanie holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom, and an M.B.A. from Clark University and a B.S. from University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, United Kingdom. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Genetics, holding certification in Clinical Molecular Genetics and Ph.D. Medical Genetics, and is a Fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics.
Gregory Porreca, Ph.D., Vice President of Research and Technology
Greg is an expert developer of genome analysis technology and has served as a Lecturer on Genetics at Harvard Medical School as well as the Personal Genome Project Director of Technology. During that time, he co-developed the Polonator, a high-throughput commercial DNA sequencing system, in collaboration with Danaher Motion Dover. Greg also co-developed one of the first next-generation DNA sequencing systems at Harvard, which was further developed by Applied Biosystems to become the SOLiD platform. He is a featured author in numerous prestigious publications, an inventor on multiple patents/applications for nucleic acid analysis and has consulted for sequencing-related biotech companies. Greg is a Founder of Good Start Genetics. He holds a Ph.D. in Genetics from Harvard University and a B.S. in Computer Science and Biology from The College of New Jersey.
Bob Rochelle, Vice President of Strategic Marketing & Global Commercial Development
Bob brings to the company more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry, ranging from basic and applied research to sales, marketing and business development. Prior to joining Good Start Genetics, Bob was Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Molecular Biometrics, Inc., where he launched novel embryo assessment technologies into the reproductive health market. Before that, he was Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for EXACT Sciences Corporation (NASDAQ: EXAS), where he helped move cutting edge cancer diagnostic concepts from the laboratory into the marketplace. Bob also served as Director of Managed Care Marketing at Abbott Laboratories (NYSE: ABT) and developed novel therapeutics and diagnostics products at Cambridge NeuroScience and Integrated Genetics/Genzyme. Bob holds bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Psychology from Trinity College and an M.B.A from the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
Laura Sullivan, Vice President of Business Operations & Managed Care
Laura brings to the company 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry providing senior operational and reimbursement leadership. Prior to joining Good Start Genetics, Laura served as Vice President of Reimbursement and Contracting of Genzyme Genetics for 11 years. From 1996 to 1999, she was Vice President of Operations of Healthdrive Corporation and prior to that served as Regional Director of Operations at Apria Healthcare. Laura holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Connecticut.
