What is GINA?

The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA) protects you. GINA is a federal law that protects individuals from discrimination based on their genetic information in health insurance and employment. GINA does not protect a patient from health insurers making decisions about eligibility based on preexisting diseases or health conditions. It also does not apply to life, disability, or long-term care insurance.
